The Godin Etude is the most popular model in the La Patrie lineup. The Etude’s specifications match those of the Motif but with a full size body. Incredibly responsive thanks to the feather-light Custom Polished finish, this guitar features great dynamic range along with the harmonically rich sound that you usually find in a guitar several times the price.

The feel and playability are just perfect for my style of music.

I have an original Etude (the Kamouraska Etude) made by Godin back in the 1970s. Its nice to see Godin still makes this fine classical guitar. Mine has aged perfectly over the many decades, and sounds great. Still looks like new…….I just put some fresh Bella nylon/silver strings on it. If you decide to buy a Godin today, here is a testimonial of one that is…. 5 decades old!

I recently “acquired” a La Patrie Etude with a serial number imprinted in the back of the headstock as “0310” followed by another 4 digits, which I interpreted as built in the 10th week of 2003. I am very impressed with the sound of this humble student guitar, bass is warm and “darker”, treble is clear, warm and sweet, and sustain is so long, if estimated like 10 sec for the bass strings. To me the sound of this guitar is amazing, rivals my other more expensive guitar, e.g. a 1998 Kenny Hill Madrid (a copy of Ramirez 1A bracing). If anything more to add: the finish is semi-gloss and so light, as if there were no finish, and surprisingly a 24-in fret radius, topped up with a truss rod -not usually a feature for a classical guitar. For a 2003 guitar, I did a neck bow check, given the truss rod feature, but found out there is nothing to adjust. The thickness at 6 or 7th fret is bang on at 0.35mm (0.14″) which is perfect, when capo at 1st fret and fretted at 12 fret, then using a feeler gauge to measure this. Btw, this guitar is both right and left friendly with tiny, aesthetically done fret dots on both sides of the neck, of course with a correct saddle the tapper down to the treble strings, and the edge curving up to the soundhole direction. I am more than excited to have this guitar. And if the current Etude can possess the same sound quality, it is a great guitar to get for both beginner and high intermediate guitar students!

I have a 2006 Etude with Godin bronze pot internal electronics. Like the one described, mine plays beautifully, with deep rich tone well assimilated by the electronics. I sometimes play it electronically thru a vintage tube Fender Hotrod amp, with stunning resonance. I travel in business, and typically carry this svelte guitar to finger-play in the evening instead of TV time. I get lots of complements from hallway guests. It’s the guitar…
