The Lerxst Limelight, a signature guitar created in partnership with iconic rock guitarist Alex Lifeson, thoroughly reimagines Lifeson’s iconic S-type guitar from the 1980s, which became synonymous with Alex’s sounds and guitar style. The Lerxst Limelight was created through the synergy of Godin’s luthier craftsmanship together with modern parts selected by Alex — to create a high-quality, thoroughly modern and refined instrument for today’s player that is anything but a “vintage reissue”.

The Lerxst Limelight features a contoured Swamp Ash body for premium comfort, a Hard Rock Maple neck with a 12” radius, an Ebony fretboard, and medium stainless steel frets for fast and intuitive playability. Like Alex’s original modified S-type guitar, this has an HSS pickup configuration for maximum versatility, with pickups custom-wound by Mojotone to Alex’s specifications to ensure balanced performance in all pickup positions, and monster tone. Players have a choice of the classic Floyd Rose tremolo system or a Vega Trem with 18:1 locking tuners for superior trem performance with rock-solid tuning stability.

This guitar will thrill and amaze players.

  1. The guitar arrived in perfect condition, and it plays like a dream.

  2. This is an initial review as I’ve only had the guitar for one day.

I’m quite impressed so far. The three pickups all have a different character to them. The neck is full and beefy with some good high end for clarity. Sometimes neck pickups lose definition in the highs. This one doesn’t. The middle is Strat-like and has an out-of-phase character to it, which to me is a must-have. The bridge is a hot, searing humbucker, so no shortage of tones is available. This could be the only guitar you need.

One tiny nitpick is the taper on the volume pot. It comes on kind of suddenly (from zero to one or two) when you are rolling it up and not as smooth as I would like. I’ve written a tune which is all swells from zero, so this doesn’t work for me, but I can always use a volume pedal, so no problem there. Other than that, it does clean up nicely, say from 10 to 7, so you can keep the gain up and just roll down a bit to keep things clean(ish). The tone control works just the way it should.

With no string trees, the locking tuners, and the Vega Trem, the guitar should have good tuning stability. I’ll let you know when I follow up.

The 12” fingerboard radius is great with no bottom outs on the stretches. I haven’t set it up to my personal liking yet, but a setup was primarily done before I picked it up at Rainbow Guitars here in Tucson, AZ. I think I can get the action a little lower.

I’ve paired it up with a Mojotone LERXST Chi Combo amp, and I have to say it sounds awesome. This guitar has some hefty natural sustain when it’s not even plugged in, and when played through the Chi, it is smooth and creamy with awesome feedback when you want it with the amp nowhere near cranked. The gain is on 3, the lead level at 5, and the Master Volume at 2, and it sounds incredible, even at those relatively low levels. I’m playing through a Strymon Compadre Compressor & Boost and Strymon Deco V2 Tape Saturation & Doubletracker pedal, both of which are adding some magic of their own. Check them out!!

    Overall, very impressive!
