This guitar has quickly become my favorite.

  2. Rory McCallan

I love this little thing! It’s tone has warmed up considerably since I first bought it. I’ve had it set up to my preferences and found the strings I like the best and it plays wonderfully, has lots of resonance and the pickup is a great match for this guitar. I gig and busk with it. Highly recommended if you you want a gig worthy smaller guitar! Very good value.

  3. Ian Robbins

How deep is it? I’m looking for a guitar like this but I would like the body to be about 3.5 inches at the thickest.

Love this little guitar, unfortunately the bridge has split like kindling along the bridge route in less than a week. Bought this on sale absolutely loved it and it went kerplunk on me……please help Monsieur Godin! Je suis heartbroken my May 24 porch rocket is crippled!

Amendment to above review: Mr Godin and his crew replaced my porch rocket within a couple days and this one isn’t drifting out of tune at all leading me to conclude the rosewood of the original bridge was flawed. I apologize for any bad noise you customer service is exemplary.
Please disregard above rating…..unless your bridge plunks out, but they got your back if it does.

This is my first Godin guitar since trading in my very first guitar decades ago (S&P Songsmith). After owning several other brands over the years I decided to give Godin guitars another shot due to it’s Canadian production, brand’s consistent & durable build quality, and competitive price point. I’m pleasantly surprised at the improvements and refinements made over the years while maintaining the high build quality, beautifully simple and well executed detailing, and sturdiness that I remembered being the strengths of my first S&P.

The neck is particularly notable as it’s slimmer and more comfortable for my hands than the chunkier necks of the Seagulls/S&P’s I’ve tried and had in the past (one of the major reasons for me not keeping them). This guitar benefits greatly from a proper break-in period, and after a couple months of regular and varied playing at different volumes (strumming, fingerstyle) the tone has really bloomed. I have another all-solid mahogany guitar (African Mahogany) and compared the two. While mahogany guitars are generally mid-focused, the Godin is clearer and more articulate while still retaining the warmth that I was looking for in a mahogany guitar. I appreciate that Godin has developed and maintained it’s own unique tonal profile, which is what led me to buy my S&P those many years ago; smooth and silky with a touch of shimmer without compromising on warmth. It can generate a very delicate sound relative to my other guitars that have too strong/sharp note definition for specific music styles. The notes blend beautifully in a strum and easily transition to other notes. This guitar has quickly become my go-to for it’s versatility across different play-styles and as a vocal accompaniment and I reach for it over my +$1000 European-made guitar more often than I expected I would. The cherry-on-top is that it’s a gorgeous guitar because of the selected wood grain and very subtle/light figuring which aren’t obvious in photos.

The only small criticism I have is that I wonder why the bridge pins weren’t also TUSQ instead of plastic. If the reasoning is tone-related that would’ve made sense, otherwise it could’ve been better to keep the materials consistent across the nut/bridge/pins.

Overall, this is a fantastic guitar that performs well above competitors at higher price points. Canadian hand-crafted quality was and will continue to keep Godin guitars on par with (or dare I say better?) than the big names.
